Alerts occur when an event triggers an action. You can add actions and triggers in the** Alerts** module that can use events to send notifications.

Review the following guides for setting up alert triggers:

- [Create an Email-Alert Based Trigger for Connector Online Status](docId\:dRX03jilj7_T_orXFBwoH)'
- [Create an Email-Alert Based Trigger for DeviceHub Devices](docId:3O0-ZZvwEEvUM2ugC_Ujf)

The Alerts module includes two sections.

# Incidents

The *Incidents* module includes a list of edge devices for which there is an incident. Incidents are generated alerts that are based on triggers. System triggers are preloaded, and user triggers are created in [Alerts](docId\:qcRiKcFeXyjQAbqJTKJmr).

The *Incidents* pane includes filters for selection of a group list, state, and date range filters for Opened Before, Opened After, Closed Before and Closed After.

# Triggers

The Triggers section includes user-defined triggers. A trigger uses an event or a metric to trigger an action, which in turn sends a notification.

You can create, view and modify user-defined triggers for the actions listed. An alert occurrence is registered as an incident and is shown in the [Incidents](docId\:lTqiknn091CU2_F_J8iIj) module. The generated alert appears in the [BHDM Dashboard](docId\:Rqf_712p9BJvIoY5qhe5A) module and the [Events](docId\:rjlnyQ0D_GXQz0i5qNXFM) tab in Edge Device Details.

# Notification Settings
